MAKE VETERINARY FEES A TAX-DEDUCTIBLE EXPENSE

We, the undersigned, call on the Canadian Government to:
Whereas the presence of companion animals in a home has been shown to have a vast range of positive health implications for Canadians, resulting in massive savings to the national healthcare system; and
Whereas Canadians overwhelmingly view our companion animals as members of our families; and
Whereas animal cruelty legislation recognizes adequate veterinary care as a necessity; and
Whereas many Canadian households are just a few hundred dollars away from insolvency, which, among other outcomes, results in “economic euthanasia” – the deaths of animals due to unaffordable veterinary costs*; and
Whereas Canadian governments encourage positive, healthy activities through tax incentives,
The Regional Animal Protection Society and the undersigned Canadians ask the federal government to make veterinary fees a tax-deductible expense.
