Pets & Pickers is the story of animals, their people, and the special team of veterinarians and support staff who care for them.

Motivated by extraordinary compassion and a singular belief that all animals deserve the finest care, this 8-episode, unscripted series reveals how the RAPS Animal Hospital works tirelessly to offer pet families who are experiencing challenges access to top vet care.

To fund these treatments, RAPS has a unique solution: their thrift store. An energetic, dedicated and quirky group of animal-loving “pickers” comb through donated mystery bins containing abandoned storage locker items – and all money raised goes to pay for vet care and lifesaving critical surgeries. It’s a one-of-a-kind “pets and pickers” relationship with an uplifting mission: to help animals … and their people.

A message from RAPS CEO Eyal Lichtmann:

RAPS began more than a quarter-century ago as a small, volunteer-driven community of animal allies trapping and spaying/neutering stray and feral cats in Metro Vancouver.

We have grown into one of Canada’s largest and most innovative animal-serving organizations.

But we have never lost sight of our roots.

We are larger now … helping exponentially more animals each year than ever before. But we remain focused on the health and well-being of every single animal that we come into contact with … whether at our RAPS Cat Sanctuary(Canada’s largest!), at our RAPS Adoption and Education Centre, at the community-owned, not-for-profit RAPS Animal Hospital, or through our education and advocacy work that improves the lives of animals by influencing public behaviours and government policies.

Everything we do is about helping animals … and their people. We know that the well-being of companion animals depends on the ability of their humans to care for them. When people face challenges caring for their animals, we are here.

We are committed to the belief that no family should be forced to make life-and-death decisions about their companion animal based on ability to pay for veterinary care.

Everything we do is founded on our no-kill promise. We keep this promise through the combination of our adoption centre, sanctuaries, foster homes and community-owned veterinary hospital. We prevent euthanasia by ensuring every animal gets the love, care and resources they need to survive and thrive.

Here is something else we believe: Where an animal lives should not determine whether an animal lives. This is why we have constantly expanded our services beyond our traditional human-created boundaries.

To keep these promises to the animals and their people, we depend on allies everywhere to help us. That includes you.

If RAPS sounds like the kind of organization that speaks to your values, become part of the RAPS story.

Here’s how:

Are you an individual or a family?

Are you a foundation, corporation or granting body?

Are you an animal-serving agency or government that deals with animal welfare?
