RAPS Call for Haven Membership Drive

We need your help – Please!

When animals are in trouble, RAPS has a duty to assist and now we need your help to save a fellow animal agency.

We are asking all RAPS supporters to sign up and become a member of the Chilliwack Animal Safe Haven Society. Get your friends to sign up as well. As a member, you will be invited to participate in their online Zoom Emergency General Meeting (EGM) and vote in their existing Board of Directors. You will be provided the date of the EGM after you sign up as a member.

Why are we asking you to become a member of another organization?

As published by The Chilliwack Progress, major changes have been taking place at Safe Haven, causing speculation and concern. These changes were announced when the existing board and interim Executive Director conducted an operational review.

While the existing board is conducting this review, several individuals have called for an Emergency EGM to overthrow the existing Board of Directors and fire the Executive Director, in what we believe is an attempt to prevent the proper due diligence and implementation of best practices in a charity.

When the actions of those negatively affect the care of animals, we, at RAPS, rally.

RAPS was approached and asked to work with the existing Board of Directors of the Chilliwack Animal Safe Haven Society to assist them in helping to care for their cats during this time of unrest in their organization.

RAPS has total faith in the existing Board of Directors and the interim Executive Director at The Haven and has agreed to partner with Safe Haven and together, this partnership will allow us to save the lives of thousands of cats each year through enhanced care, resources, and veterinary support. We are sister organizations caring for large number of cats. An alliance means:

— More cats saved, faster through shared veterinary care, foster networks, transport, and specialty services.

— Improved outcomes for unadoptable cats, including permanent placement at the RAPS Cat Sanctuary.

— Lower costs, higher impact by sharing veterinarians, equipment, transport, training, and infrastructure, stretching donor dollars further.

— Access to hospital-level care, leveraging the nonprofit RAPS Animal Hospital, which has already provided over $7 million in veterinary subsidies to the public and rescue partners—services RAPS seeks to extend to the people of Chilliwack and the Safe Haven’s cats.

— Stronger standards across the region through shared best practices, training, and mentorship for staff and expanded opportunities for volunteers.

— Strategic safety alliance, allowing the RAPS Cat Sanctuary and the Haven to serve as emergency and evacuation partners, providing a critical safety net for hundreds of cats.

The bottom line is that we save more animals, spend less money doing it, protect their people, and earn greater public trust, without giving up autonomy.

This is why we need you to sign up and vote with us at the Emergency General Meeting to help keep the Chilliwack Animal Safe Haven Society in the hands of the existing board members, who we believe have the best interest of the organization and animals at heart and are doing an ethical and professional job upgrading The Haven society to meet best practices.

This action is endorsed by the RAPS Board of Directors, who will also be in attendance at the EGM. The cost of membership is $10 and we hope you will be an agent of positive change and help RAPS help The Haven.
