Meet the Volunteer of the Month: Jasleen Randhawa

Everything RAPS does is possible only because of a small army of volunteers! This month, we recognize Jasleen Randhawa as our celebrated Volunteer of the Month!

What is your role at RAPS?

At the hospital, I am responsible for training new volunteers, ensuring the cleanliness of exam rooms between patient visits, maintaining public areas, caring for the pet boarding spaces, and laundering soiled scrubs and towels.

How long have you been volunteering and/or working with RAPS?

I’ve been volunteering at RAPS Animal Hospital for nearly four years, also contributing at the Adoption Center for a year now.

What makes you committed to RAPS?

I’m passionate about spending time with animals, and I’m aiming for a career in veterinary field. Volunteering at RAPS seemed like the perfect way to gain insight into the environment I hope to work in someday, and it has also allowed me to expand my knowledge in this field.

Favorite Favorite part:

My favorite part of the job is being around the animals and helping out in whatever way I can. It’s nice to know that my presence contributes, even in small ways, to making the environment a bit easier for the hospital.

Least favorite part:

Honestly, I don’t really have a least favorite part. One task I handle is tidying up the public areas. While it may not be the most exciting part of my day, I’m always happy to contribute wherever needed.

Tell us about yourself (where you grew up, family, pets, etc.)

I grew up in Richmond, surrounded by family and animals, which had a huge influence on me.

What do you do in your spare time?

When I’m not volunteering, I spend a lot of my free time working in the research lab at my university. If I’m not there, I love to spend the rest of my time reading books.

Do you have pets? Tell us about them!

Yes, I have the sweetest little teacup Pomeranian named Minnie. I spend most of my time with her, whether we’re taking naps together or I’m teaching her new tricks. I also grew up with several pets at my cousins’ house, including a Rottweiler named Virgo, a talking parrot named Georgie, a kitty named Hazel, and a rescue Chihuahua named Coco. Growing up in such an animal-loving family definitely influenced my decision to pursue a career working with animals
