The Goal is Goodbye
Foster families know that their time with an animal is limited. That doesn’t always make it easy.
Fosterers are a vital part of the RAPS family!
Kittens and new mamas, cats with special needs, and any kind of non-feline animal that comes into our care goes into foster!
The impact fosterers have on our animals is vast. The impact the animals have on our fosterers is, of course, also significant.
Recently, we had a message from Tracey, a devoted fosterer, whose words gives a taste of how the inevitable goodbye – which is the ultimate goal of the fostering process – affects the human.
It took Lita 10 months to find a forever home. During all that time, she lived with Tracey and two other foster kitties. Of course, they formed a tight relationship.
Tracey writes …
No more wondering, Miss Lita! It’s a good day, today. Bittersweet? Indeed, it is. Lita has left our foster home and is making her way to her new home as we speak!
Lita has been in our care… hmmm, for close to 10 months. To say she’s grown on us would be a massive, massive understatement.
We watched as she reared her five active nuggets, ever so sweetly and playfully! Her bond with all of them was tight, but the bond she and Lucy shared was one to adore. And then to accept another nugget that wasn’t hers. Man, that too, was incredible to witness.
The goal is goodbye.
Though never easy on our hearts, it is so incredibly reassuring to meet the humans who now have her and who are now responsible for Lita. I got good vibes – so good that I didn’t cry! That says a lot!
The girls aren’t going as a trio, but Lita is going home with another kitten from the Adoption Centre. If I know Lita as well as I think I do, I think they’ll be ultra-sweet together.
Miss Lita – I had my little whisper goodbye and wishes this morning with you. I wish you nothing but love and safe care with your new family. You are a gem and your new people are fortunate to have you.
I can’t wait for you to be able to explore your new digs. In fact, I can see it in my mind. You will be so happy and chatty!
We love you and will never forget you, sweetie (crying now). Happy life full of love, Miss Li Li!
Don’t worry, we’ll continue to love Lucy and Jelly and ensure they go to a good home together!
Fostering saves lives!
Adopt in pairs!”

Thank you to Tracey and to all the humans who take on this responsibility – a task that has an inevitable happy (but always bittersweet) ending.
