B.C. leads the country in animal rights

Happy new year! But first … let’s celebrate a triumph of 2023!
Amendments to B.C.’s Family Law Act make this province a national leader in considering the best interests of pets in the event of family breakdown, according to animal law lawyer Rebeka Breder.
Rebeka, who is a member of the Regional Animal Protection Society’s board of directors, is a hero in the animal ally community. Her entire career has been devoted to advocating for the rights of animals under law in British Columbia, Canada and beyond.
She said two of her three wish list items were realized in the changes, which the legislature adopted last year.
