Meet the Cat Sanctuary Interns

We were so fortunate to have the support this summer of a group of amazing young animal allies. Thanks to the Canada Summer Jobs program, we had three young people work with the administration team. (We celebrated them here.)

This week, meet the three awesome people who dedicated themselves to the residents at the RAPS Cat Sanctuary.

CASSIE

What and where are you studying?

I am currently studying at the University of Western Ontario and majoring in Biology.

What did you do at RAPS this summer?

This summer, I aided the staff in keeping the Sanctuary clean and safe for the cats. As well, I got to become very familiar with many of the cats residing in the Sanctuary and notified med staff if anything was out of the ordinary with them.

Why did you want to work at RAPS?

I wanted to work with RAPS because of my love for cats. I also wanted to learn more about cats and was able to gain a lot of insight through working with both the staff and volunteers.

What are your future plans?

My future plans include focusing on finishing my degree and traveling around the world.

What did you do at RAPS this summer?

I have spent most of my summer cleaning. I’ve also gotten the chance to spend time with many of the cats and feed them and do other tasks around the sanctuary.

Why did you want to work at RAPS?

I wanted to work at RAPS because I’ve loved animals since I was a child (especially cats). When I was young, I always dreamed of working in an animal shelter/rescue. So when I saw they were hiring here I was so excited!

What are your future plans?

I’m still figuring out what I want to do in the future, but I hope to travel and continue doing something related to animal care.

MAX

What and where are you studying?

I am currently studying psychology at UBC.

What did you do at RAPS this summer?

Lots of cleaning! Especially deep cleaning, since that isn’t easy to do when there aren’t as many hands. We also helped with feeding, changing waters, and of course spending lots of time hanging out with the cats.

Why did you want to work at RAPS?

I have always been an animal lover, but it’s hard to find a pet-friendly apartment in Vancouver, so it was nice to get to hang out with them here instead. I also wanted my summer job to be something that had a more meaningful impact than just a retail job.

What are your future plans?

I am hoping to eventually do a master’s degree in library science, and would love to get a chance to do some travelling eventually.
