Happy home for Faye
This week has been National Dog Week! To celebrate, we are sharing a story of a very happy ending!
In July 2017, Faye came to the RAPS City of Richmond Animal Shelter as a stray. She was found wandering alone at Triangle Beach and was not reclaimed. Her microchip was also not registered. We sadly know nothing about her history. Yet she’s the most gentle, well-adjusted girl who is comfortable with everyone and everything!
Jill Morisset, who is assistant manager of the RAPS Cat Sanctuary, had been looking for a dog for a few months – and she had a very specific criteria. The ideal dog for her household was a small or medium sized senior dog with a calm disposition and one who would be comfortable living with cats.
She met a few pups at the Shelter, but they weren’t quite the right fit … then, Jill says, “like a tiny angel from heaven, Faye appeared!”
“As soon as I saw her I cried. It was love at first sight. It didn’t take long for her to bond with me and we’ve been inseparable ever since. I can’t imagine my life without her.”
We are so happy when we see senior pets adopted because they are too often overlooked in Shelters. In many cases, they have come from loving homes but their lives have been upended because of a human’s passing, their person’s health condition or other sudden change in circumstance. People may be hesitant to deal with any potential health issues or they may be fearful, knowing the animal may not live long.
“The reality,” Jill says, “is that they can be so incredibly grateful for the home you give them to spend their last years. I feel like every moment I have with her is that much more precious. It’s also really fun to just let her live her best life in the time that she has!”
To celebrate National Dog Week, talk to your family about adopting. Or, if that’s not an option, consider volunteering with RAPS to help us save and improve the lives of animals.
